At thirty-nine-years-old, Joan Spencer has it all: a loving husband and family, good friends, a nice home. But as she approaches the big 4-0, life takes a turn. Her two oldest children are changing attitudes, becoming harder to understand; her next door neighbor, Lila, seems to find pleasure in making Joan miserable; her divorced, beautiful sister Marilyn has a new boyfriend that she refuses to introduce to the family until the time is right. And then to make life more complicated, Joan and Marilyn’s father, who disappeared from their lives thirty years ago, suddenly reappears, wanting to be a part of their lives—a big part of their lives.
Thank goodness Joan has her best friend Charla to keep her sane. Although Charla lives over 2,000 miles away, they keep in touch with weekly two-hour phone calls that they refer to as their “phone therapy” sessions. Armed with phone therapy and an endless supply of chocolate bars that Joan keeps in a hidden stash in her kitchen, Joan faces life head on and comes out a winner. BUY THIS BOOK |
